Shepard's Pie

Ingredients

  • fresh sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • minced garlic (I use the kind that is in the jar)
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
  • 1 regular size can of sweet corn
  • Bisto Gravy (or brown gravy)

Instructions

Prepare your mashed potatoes

Season your meat to your taste and brown it with your onion, garlic and mushrooms. Drain your meat.

Prepare your brown gravy (I use Bisto Gravy that I get from the English store we go to but you can use Frenches or whatever you like)

In a casserole dish layer once each:

Meat
corn
gravy
Mashed potatoes

Once you spread your mashed potatoes over the top, take a fork and make ridges over the top. This makes it really nice and crispy on the top:) I like to drag the fork down my casserole and then across.

Bake at 400 til the peaks are nice and brown and the sides are bubbly. (Side note: You might want to put your casserole on a cookie sheet in case it bubbles over)

Remove and let sit for 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!!

My husband is from London and this is one of his all time favorite recipes. I make up a large batch of this and then put leftovers into individual (freezer safe) containers. It freezes well.
