Italian Baked Round Steak
Ingredients
- 2 lbs top round steak
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup flour
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil
- 6-ounce can tomato paste
- 2 cups water
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon sugar
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 bell pepper, cut into strips
Instructions
Cut steak into serving pieces and trim fat. Sprinkle with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Pound flour into steak. Heat oil in large skillet. Brown steak on both sides, place in casserole dish. Pour fat from skillet. Mix tomato paste, water and seasonings in skillet; heat. Arrange onion and peppers on meat. Pour tomato mixture over all and cover tightly. Bake at 350 for 1 to 1 - 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Delicious over rice.
